The “ball de bot” is a combination of various traditional dances from Mallorca and Menorca that originated in the 17th and 18th centuries. Initially, these dances were both genteel and very demure and were danced at theatre performances. The middle-class people quickly adopted these dances and modified them in their own way. The “Ball de bot” consists of the Fandango, the Jota (from Áragon), the Bolero, “La Mateixa” and “Copeo” . Today, the Ball de Bot can be found at almost every folk festival. And is kept alive in numerous dance groups on the islands.
